The Cat Came Back, Woods Burner, Indigo Shadows Trish Harding [email protected] 360 319-6115 In A Land of Snow and Indigo Image List Woods Burner, 18x20”, oil on primed burlap, $570 “Nature is full of genius; full of the divinity; so that not a snowflake escapes its fashionings.” Henry David Thoreau On April 30, 1844 Henry David Thoreau burned down over 300 acres of Concord woods after his campfire got out of control. For years afterwards Thoreau could not walk through his own hometown without hearing the epithet “woods burner”. Indigo Shadows, 11x21”, oil on mounted canvas, $480 Indigo originally was a chemical extracted from the woad plant. Early in the 20th century woad and indigo were replaced by synthetic indigos. Indigo is a deep bright neutral color close to blue on the color wheel. Indigo’s connotations are: loyalty, religion, spirituality, and sorcery. It also is a pigment that symbolizes new age philosophy and represents the sixth chakra, which is said to include the third eye, intuition, and genius. The Cat Came Back, 18x20”, oil on primed burlap, $570 After the heavy smoke disburses, when the wailing of the pines becomes intermittent moans, and after the rapid crackle of the burning bitter brush, finally, yes, finally the anxiety and fears are lessened and, for some, life goes on somewhat close to normal once again.
