Congratulations Arkansas, today voters will approve a hike in the minimum wage. Both Asa Hutchinson and Mike Ross support it. As you can see the most popular job in Arkansas is Food Processing. Arkansas is the Chicken Processing Capital of America. That could change with an increased minimum wage. Already seafood caught in the US is being frozen and shipped to China for processing and then shipped back to be sold here. The USDA has approved the same thing for chickens. Why do you think Arkansas dropped the Land of Opportunity slogan? With 100 years of Democratic rule and a couple of years of Democratic domination of a Republican Legislature, we are dependent on Chicken Processing to survive and lucky to get it. The opportunity moved to Texas and Florida along with Governor Huckabee. Arkansas is producing bureaucrats with SUVs and fees to look at the Mulberry River but our children cannot make a living here. With the highest per capita taxes in the South and the lowest family income, raising the minimum wage will solve everything, right? A few years ago some brilliant genus counted the trucks in Arkansas and multiplied by $80 and figured the state could reap a windfall by taxing each truck. It does not work that way. In fact, the revenue to the state decreased after the tax because truck lines moved their headquarters across the state line. It makes no difference which state line because they save money in any surrounding state. Of course Texas and Tennessee are doing best because they have NO STATE INCOME TAX. Tim Griffin wants to dedicate his time as Lieutenant Governor to make Arkansas more COMPETITIVE. Can we get anyone else interested in making Arkansas competitive? Big Government, Big Taxes, Burdensome Regulations and a Higher Minimum Wage is not a recipe for Competitiveness. Will the last industry that leaves Arkansas please turn off the lights.
