Owner/Manager, The Childrens Bookshop, Beecroft, 1971-1996; first specialist childrens bookshop in New South Wales. - The shop became a well-known gathering place for readers, authors and illustrators from around Australia and overseas for talks on literary matters to promote literacy and reading. - Larger premises allowed expansion as a venue for book launches, seminars and promotional events such as authors talks and childrens activities. Speaker at schools, colleges, universities and book groups, in the 1970s and 1980s. Children’s Publisher, Scholastic Publishing, in the 1990s. Visiting lecturer in Childrens Literature, University of Technology Sydney, Macquarie University and the Australian Catholic University. Current Online lecturer, course on Australian Childrens Literature for postgraduate students, Simmons College, Boston USA. Continues to share Australian childrens literature through speaking engagements, articles and presentations in Australia and internationally. Vice-President, Aora Childrens Literature Research Centre NSW, since 2008. President, Australian Section, International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), since 2009; has represented Australia and delivered papers at IBBY world congresses. Member, Childrens Book Council of Australia, since the 1980s. Other Judging Panel roles include: - Chair, Judging Panel, Ena Noel Award, Australian Section IBBY. - Childrens Book Council of Australia National Awards (NSW Judge), 2001 and 2002. - NSW Premiers Literary Awards. - Dorothea Mackellar National Poetry Competition. Publications include: Reviews and commentary of childrens literature including The Weekend Australian; Sydneys Child; Magpies; The Australian Bookseller and Publisher (industry magazine); and other Australian and international journals.
