Congratulations Hristina Mikić! And congratulations to all recipients of the UNESCO International Fund for Cultural Diversity Montreal, December 19, 2014 – Of the 7 projects approved for funding by the UNESCO International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD) this year, 4 were presented by organizations associated with the International Federation of Coalitions for Cultural Diversity. Heartfelt congratulations to all recipients, and especially: The International Music Council and its secretary general Silja Fischer for the project “Empowering African youth to harness the potential of the music Sector” through the provision of cultural management courses, internship programmes and work placements for young music professionals in Cameroon, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique and the United Republic of Tanzania. Manassé Nguinambaye Ndoua of the Réseau culturel et artistique pour la formation et la Francophonie (RECAF), a nongovernmental organization committed to improving education and artistic opportunities for Chadian youth for his project “Emerging Youth: Strengthening sub-regional cooperation and promoting young talents in the African music sector”. Aadel Essaadani, President of Arterial Network and of Association Racines, a non-governmental organization committed to integrating culture in development policies, and his teammate Dounia Benslimane, for their initiative “Developing an efficient policy for the promotion of cultural industries in Morocco”. And also, Hristina Mikic, director of the Creative Economy Group, whose organization will commit to “Strengthening local and regional institutional capacities to develop cultural industries policies in Serbia” by building capacity at the local level in participatory policy development processes. These successful applications are a testimony to the need for ongoing capacity-building activities by UNESCO and its partner organizations from civil society such as the Federation of International Coalitions for Cultural Diversity (Ouagadougou, December 2011 and Brussels, December 2013), Culturelink (Zagreb, June 2013), IFACCA (Bangkok, March 2014) and Arterial Network (pan-African cultural leadership training program, ongoing). The Intergovernmental Committee for the 2005 Convention has approved the funding of the successful applications which received some of the highest evaluation scores in any funding cycles, proof that the aim of the Fund and its criteria are clearer, better communicated and more fully understood. The International Federation of Coalitions for Cultural Diversity (IFCCD) is the voice of cultural professionals worldwide. It brings together 43 national coalitions comprised of over 600 organizations and receives the support of associate members.
