Congratulations to Dr. Derek J. Robinson (Beta Iota ’96) for being named as a “Top Healthcare Professional Under 40” by the National Medical Association! Robinson is a member of the executive leadership team at the Illinois Hospital Association (IHA) where he serves as Executive Director of the Institute for Innovations in Care and Quality. He also continues to practice emergency medicine in the Chicagoland area. Prior to joining the IHA, Robinson served as the Chief Medical Officer for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Chicago Regional Office. Robinson is a diplomat of the American Board of Emergency Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. He completed his undergraduate studies at Xavier University of Louisiana and received his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine. He completed his residency training at the University of Chicago where he was a domestic and international flight physician. Robinson subsequently earned a MBA from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. He holds an appointment as adjunct assistant professor of emergency medicine in the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Medicine of Chicago. Robinson is widely recognized for his past service on the board of directors of the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association and a resident representative to the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) board of directors. In 2008, Robinson was recognized by the 25,000 physician members of ACEP as a “Hero in Emergency Medicine.” He serves as Vice President of the Edward G. Irvin Foundation and Vice President of the Howard University Medical Alumni Association.
