Congratulations to Sylacauga High School’s BEST robotics team! On Friday and Saturday, fifteen schools participated in the Central Alabama BEST robotics competition, which was held in the Speed Dome at the Talladega Superspeedway. The rookie SHS BEST robotics team placed second earning a spot at the South’s BEST Regional Robotics Championship at Auburn University December 5-7. They will compete against the top 53 robotic teams from six states! The Central Alabama BEST robotics competition was sponsored and organized by Central Alabama Community College. Founded by Texas Instruments, the purpose of BEST (Boosting Engineering Science and Technology) is to inspire students to pursue careers in engineering, science, technology, and mathematics through robotics design. Through participation in the project-based STEM program, students learn to analyze and solve problems utilizing the Engineering Design Process, which helps them develop technological literacy skills. It is these skills that industry seeks in its workforce. Each fall, over 850 middle and high schools and over 18,000 students participate in the competition nation-wide. Check the SCS Facebook page (facebook/SylacaugaCitySchools) later today for videos from the competition.
