Congratulations to The Friends of Bogong who recently celebrated their 30th anniversary on the Bogong High Plains. Formed in 1984, the group has run at least two working parties in the Alpine National Park each year, carrying out maintenance work on walking tracks, removing pine trees, willows and other weeds, building benches and bridges and numerous other projects. Regular volunteers were awarded 30-year pins by Parks Victoria and one of the founding members, Dawn Kneen, was awarded Victorian Environment Friends Network’s 2014 “Best Friend Award” in recognition of her service to the group over that time. Ranger in Charge Ross Grant said “The work carried out by the volunteers from Friends of Bogong over the last 30 years has been invaluable to the maintenance of the Alpine National Park and has contributed greatly to the enjoyment of the Park by many visitors.” Friends of Bogong are looking for more volunteers to continue the great work of the last 30 years, especially local members from around the Alpine Shire. For more information visit their website friendsofbogong.org.au, or email membership officer Rod Novak at rodnovak@gmail.
