Congratulations to two W&M faculty members who will be honored at this years Charter Day ceremony: Cheryl Dickter, Assistant Professor of Psychology, and Jacquelyn McLendon, Professor of English and Africana Studies. McLendon is one of the country’s foremost authorities on the Harlem Renaissance, the first associate chair of the English department, and a central figure in the establishment of the Africana Studies program. She will receive the Jefferson Award, which is presented to a member of the “university family for significant service through his or her personal activities, influence and leadership.” Learn more: wm.edu/news/stories/2014/recipient-mclendon-embodies-the-spirit-of-jefferson-award.php Dickters research focuses on the cognitive processes of prejudice and stereotyping and she serves as an advisor and co-director for the William and Mary Scholars Undergraduate Research Experience Program. She will receive the Thomas Jefferson Teaching Award which is given to a younger faculty member at the university who has demonstrated, through concern as a teacher and through character and influence, the inspiration and stimulation of learning to the betterment of the individual and society.
