Congress Meet discusses issues for National Youth Manifesto With an aim to include the problems faced by youth in the manifesto of the upcoming Lok Sabha Election, Outer Lok Sabha Committee of Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Sunday organized a consultative meeting on Indian Youth Manifesto at Tribal Research Institute Hall at Chingmeirong. Parliamentary Secretary of Tribals and Hills Department, Victor Keishing, who graced the function as Chief Guest, said that youth is the key to the future of the nation. “Peace and development of a society lies in the hand of the youths and their development. More than 60 percent of the total population of the country are youths”. Calling on youths to maintain proper behaviour in order and peace in the society, he conceded that youths in Manipur are facing various problems – problems of insurgency, HIV and other diseases like Hepatitis C. “In such situation, youth should take proactive role in identifying the shortcomings of education and other policies to bring peace and development in the society”, he added. Speaking on the occasion, Secretary of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, P Sashikanta, who attended the function as Guests of Honour, said that youth is the backbone of Congress party and they should have politeness and proper behaviour in order to make the party a well-organized and courteous party. President of Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee, Md Aamir Hussain, who presided over the function, stressed the need for inclusion of Hepatitis C and its preventive measures in the Youth Manifesto. “The party has been pressing its Central leader to establish a Sports University for North East in the state and it needs collective pressure of the people, especially the youth to translate the demand into action” he urged. Informing that similar consultative meetings would be held on January 8 and 9 to submit a report to the Centre for inclusion of the demands of the state in the National Youth Manifesto, he also appealed to the youths of the state to participate in the next meetings and express their views and opinions to come up with a strong proposal for the National Youth Manifesto.
