Congress says no relief for Doda sufferers A week after Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Yasin Malik, accused theCongress high command of preventing him from entering Doda, to distribute relief among the victims of recent earthquakes, Congress on Tuesday said that stopping of Malik’s entourage by the police was ‘not a right decision’. Addressing a press conference here, CongressMLA Baderwah, Mohammad Shafi Niaz said that Malik was visiting Doda in good faith andthat he never in the past had politicised his relief work. Niaz, a close relative of union minister GhulamNabi Azad, said that the authorities did no good by stopping Yasin Malik. “Yasin Malik always visits the people affected by natural calamities and he was coming to Doda to distribute relief among the earth quake hit people on humanitarian grounds. None will defend the action of preventing him from entering Doda”, Niaz said. Accusing government of the failure in taking effective relief and rehabilitation measures of the tremor hit people especially in Baderwah, Bhalesa Thatri, Niaz said that the dozens of earthquake shocks for a month devastated the entire region and demanded shelter, free ration and sufficient compensation for the sufferers. Niaz blamed the government for doing nothing on ground for sufferers and said thatthe state and central governments have only announced the relief package but it has not been distributed yet. “Chief Minister has announced 500 crore relief for the victims, but not a single penny has been distributed among them,” he said. Niaz accused the government for only makingassessments and alleged that the far flung areas have not been assessed so far to know the real situation of people and their miseries.Meanwhile, accusing the government for distributing relief only in Doda town and ignoring the interiors, Youth Congress President, Shahnawaz Chowdery said that a major chunk of population have been left without any relief package and those whose houses have been completely damaged are being provided little relief. “The earthquake has damaged almost 95 percent of structures, and government has announced a little relief for the affected people, we want a complete rehabilitation for the victims,” Chowdery said. Both the Congress leaders accused the disaster management authorities for their failure to provide shelter to the affected people. “People have been forced to live under open sky from past one month and thestate disaster management authority has failed to provide tents to them,” they said. They demanded relief package be given on the pattern Leh during 2010 cloud burst.
