ConnectMarch 2014NEWS AND VIEWS FOR THE KELTBRAY TEAMCONTRACT NEWSKeltbray to helpdeliver national rail strategyKeltbray has been announced as the delivery partner for ABC Electrification; a joint venture between Babcock, Costain and Alstom, to provide electrification on the London North Western route (London to Crewe), and the Welsh Valleys region, as part of Network Rail’s electrification programme.Network Rail is investing an estimated £9 billion over the next 10 to 15 years in their electrification strategy, which involves the electrification of more than two thousand miles of the UK’s rail system. For Network Rail, the electrification strategy will improve services, be better for the environment and support economic growth across thecountry. In the £900 million, seven-year ABC contract, which is extendable by a further three years, Keltbray will be working on two of the six regional framework agreements.Further good news is that Keltbray has been confirmed as partner for Costain in delivering electrification and track on the London Great Eastern North East Spur in a contract worth £150 million.“Key to securing these new electrification contracts, which are by far our biggest to date, was the combined value Keltbray brings. By offering our full design, engineering and delivery expertise, we have provided network Rail with the confidence that ABC + K could provide a high quality, integrated service with a strong focus on our success in our commitment to supporting local communities with employment and training opportunities,”explained Managing Director of Rail and Infrastructure for Keltbray, Phill Price.“Since our strategic move into rail sector, we have continued to strengthen our position year on year, but it is fair to say these contracts elevate our stature, and we are proud to have been selected as one of the key suppliers working with Network Rail to deliver this major programme, which is a vital part of revitalising the country’s infrastructure and critical to the growth of the UK.”A delighted Director for Rail Electrification, Martin Brown, said: “We very much welcome these long term contract awards, which enable us to plan what people, skills and equipment we will now need to deliver against these schemes. This fantastic success is testimony to a lot of hard work by our bid team, led by Warren Jones for a long six-month tender period.”
