Duck Stamp Act Hinges on Obama Good news from the folks at Ducks Unlimited: On December 2 the U.S. Senate passed the Duck Stamp Act of 2014, which now awaits President Obama’s signature. If the act becomes law, it would increase the price of federal duck stamps from $15 to $25 and provide additional funds for wetland and waterfowl conservation. DU officials note the bill would help protect important duck breeding grounds and ensure the future of waterfowl hunting. The price of duck stamps has not increased since 1991. Since that time, inflation and rising land costs have diminished the purchasing power of money generated by the stamps. “This is huge news for conservation and duck hunters,” says Senator David Vitter of Louisiana. “As we move forward to conserve millions of acres of waterfowl habitat, its important to remember the mutually beneficial relationship between our nations sportsmen and ducks. This legislation boosts conservation efforts, which in turn directly impacts the success of duck hunters in near and future hunting seasons.” Since the federal duck stamp’s introduction in 1934, it has raised more than $750 million and conserved more than six-million acres of waterfowl habitat. Ducks Unlimited’s statement concerning the news does not address if Washington’s current political climate will effect whether the President signs the bill or not.
