Conservatives generally don’t need any more evidence to convince them that Nancy Pelosi should be fired as house minority leader. The California representative who has been variously described as “mind-numbingly stupid” and “unhinged” is likely to hear more such comments as word of her latest plans for the U.S. military become known. Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill told the Washington Blade on Friday that Pelosi wants to lift the ban on transgender individuals from serving openly in the U.S. armed forces, Breitbart reported. The Blade considers itself “the newspaper of record for the LGBT community,” according to its website. “Pelosi believes there is no place for discrimination in the U.S. Armed Forces, including on the basis of gender identity,” Hammill said. Mara Keisling of the National Center for Transgender Equality said that Pelosi’s desire to end the ban is good for America. “Military service for transgendered people is right morally and, very importantly, it’s right for military readiness,” she said. Pelosi’s support for this idea is just another example of liberal blindness to anything but political correctness, the expansion of government power, and the impingement of federal authority upon personal liberty — no surprise there. Keisling’s statement about “military readiness” deserves a bit of analysis, however. Bear with us as we do a little math. No one is certain of the number of individuals in the United States who identify as transgendered. The most often-cited statistic is 700,000, but even those who arrived at the number admit that the data is wildly unreliable. However, for argument’s sake, let’s accept it. Of that, we might assume that something slightly less than half may be of military age, bringing the total of possible transgendered enlistees down to 350,000. From that, one must further assume that not all of these individuals have any interest in serving in the military. The New York Times last year said that only about five Americans in 1,000 enlist in the armed forces. Assuming the truth of that statistic, we come to the conclusion that perhaps — perhaps — lifting the ban in question would raise military preparedness by a pool of 1,750 transgendered individuals. Given that there are currently approximately 2.3 million servicemen and women currently enlisted, it’s hard to see how a potential pool of 1,750 individuals are going to be that much of an addition to military preparedness unless Chuck Norris has some transgender relatives we don’t know about. But hey, when did logic or facts ever get in the way of a good liberal idea? Please share this article on Facebook and Twitter if you disagree with Nancy Pelosi’s plan to allow transgendered individuals to enlist in the U.S. military. conservativetribune/pelosi-trying-to-do-to-military/
