Considering this is my high school and hometown, Im going to voice - TopicsExpress

Considering this is my high school and hometown, Im going to voice my opinion. These t-shirts are ridiculous. Theyre incredibly disrespectful to wear at a SCHOOL sporting event. Let alone multiple of them. If you want to make a statement, keep the politics separate from school functions that are supposed to be fun and friendly. If you want free speech, you have it. But also know, that saying I cant breathe in a time where not long ago, one of our own sheriffs was involved in a fatal shootout and has greatly devastated this community. This isnt the NBA. Theres no national TV coverage happening at every game. Were a D4 small school whos players solely play for entertainment. So realize that the people youre making this statement to, are the ones youre offending. If you want to wear those shirts at your own gym, feel free. But as a guest to another school, youre associating your school with this, as well as parents, and anyone affiliated with both the players, and organization. So its completely fair to be banned when youre insulting an ENTIRE town by continuing to wear those shirts when you realize how many people have taken that slogan personally. And you cant blame the principal for taking precautions to protect both schools when there has been angry, and violent talk over this controversy. Its unnecessary drama from a disrespectful situation that Mrs. Walker has every right to exclude from her school. Especially when the masses are in uproar over this. Also, this shirt comes from a situation where the man resisted arrest, in New York! A cop was doing his JOB in physically handling him. Hes not going to know he has asthma, and saying I cant breathe is an excuse many have used to get out of an altercation with an officer. So what youre supporting is a criminal who resisted arrest and a cop took necessary measures given the city he lives in. New York is full of violence, its not a community like Fort Bragg or Mendocino where theres 10,000 combined. Tops. Its a city where criminals will attack cops with brute force, and it happens on a daily basis. No, I dont support police brutality, Im aware it happens, but if youre going to choose an incident and a particular person to make a martyr, then choose one who was actually brutalized FOR NO REASON. Not for a cop doing his job and inadvertently making a mistake.
