Considering we are about to go back to school, I thought it would - TopicsExpress

Considering we are about to go back to school, I thought it would be timely for me to go through my Grammar pet peeves when reading statuses on FB. 1. Alot is not a word. It never will be... It is a lot - but try to use something different all together. 2. You do not want to be apart of anything. You want to be a part of something or you can pull apart something, but they mean very different things. 3. Lose means that you have lost something - loose means something is not tight. The vowel sound in the middle helps you to identify which one you need. The long o sound means you need two o, the short sound means you need one. 4. There - is location (think here and there), their is ownership - their bike and theyre means they are. 5. A plural does not require an apostrophe. So fish and chips is just ridiculous. Just because a word ends in s, does not mean it requires one. It signifies ownership again, so use sparingly - eg: Toms bike. 6. Where is location and were is past tense of are. Eg: Where were you going? 7. You did not seen anything - you saw. 8. The word literally does not need to be used all the time. If you literally just walked in - say, I just walked in. Let the rest of us fill in the literally if we need to... But mind you it just means that it did indeed happen, so most likely people are not going to argue with you. 9. to is a preposition and represents location eg: I went to the shop. too is a representation of how much eg: I ate too much cake. They are very different and not interchangeable. 10. Bought is past tense of buy, Brought is past tense of bring. There are many more, but these are my Top 10. Feel free to share your pet peeve with me so we all can learn from Grammarly wisdom. Lets make 2015, the year of perfect grammar. Ah... Utopia!
