Construction Update: October 9, 2014 VTrans would like to keep you informed of construction activities related to the following projects: · I-89 Bridges Project · Waterbury Roundabout · Bolton - Waterbury US 2 Reclaim Project · Northbound (NB) Off Ramp Signal Project · Stowe Street Sidewalk · Waitsfield-Moretown-Duxbury (VT 100 Preventive Maintenance Paving) Thank you in advance for your cooperation. During foliage season, and with several construction projects underway, motorists are reminded that the roads and highways around the Waterbury area are open and passable. At times, travel may be reduced to one lane in the construction areas with traffic control personnel maintaining traffic flow. Waterbury Roundabout Project AOT Project No: STP SGNL (18) Project Location: Intersection of Routes 100/2 in Waterbury. Week of October 13, 2014 Crews will be working on the project Columbus Day, Monday, October 13, 2014. Crews will continue to construct the south side of the roundabout and work along Route 100SB outside of traffic. Traffic may be interrupted for short durations while trucks and equipment access the construction areas. There will be short periods of alternating one-way traffic throughout the project area as crews install new electrical lines. Pipe installation will continue in front of Crossroads with two-way traffic maintained. Maxi’s Restaurant/Post Office Access – Motorists accessing Route 2EB and Route 100NB from Maxi’s Restaurant and/or the Post Office will be required to use the new access on Route 100S. A traffic signal will control traffic exiting the new access. Motorists wanting to access Route 2 WB can continue to use the Route 2 entrance. Left turns out of the Route 2 access will be prohibited. Roundabout Traffic Pattern – The Route 100/2 intersection is located on the north side of the Roundabout. Three traffic signals control traffic entering the intersection at Route 2 EB, Route 2 WB/Route 100 NB, and Route 100 SB. · Route 100 NB Traffic Pattern – Route 100 NB traffic is controlled by a traffic signal. Motorists traveling westbound on Route 2 to Route 100 NB must yield to oncoming traffic before turning right on red. · Route 100 SB Traffic Pattern – The Route 100 SB traffic pattern consists of two southbound lanes serving as turning lanes for Route 2 East and Route 2 West. The two lanes enter the north side of the Roundabout with traffic signals controlling traffic turning onto Route 2. Route 2 EB traffic turns left and uses the inside lane of the Roundabout to Route 2 east. Route 2 WB turns right and shifts to the outside lane of the Roundabout to Route 2 west. · Route 2 EB and WB Traffic Pattern – Travel from Route 2 East and West is alternating one-way traffic controlled by traffic signals. Route 2 west shifts to the outside of the roundabout after the signal. Route 2 East uses the inside lane of the Roundabout. Motorists should be aware that turning right on red from Route 100 SB onto Route 2 West is prohibited during construction. New traffic signs have been installed near the intersection. This traffic pattern will remain in effect until approximately late-October while the south side of the Roundabout is constructed. Traffic – Traffic delays can be expected throughout the week. Bolton-Waterbury (US 2 Reclaim) AOT Project No: STP 2709(1) Project Location: Route 2 – From Parro’s Gun Shop in Waterbury west along Route 2 to just beyond Latham Trailer Sales in Bolton. Estimated completion is late October 2014. Saturday, October 11, 2014 – Crews will not be working on the project on Saturday. Week of October 13, 2014 Due to the expected increase in traffic volume over the Columbus Day holiday weekend, no work will be performed on the project Monday, October 13th. Work on the project will resume Tuesday, October 14th. Crews will complete the leveling course paving and start the final paving from the beginning of the project at the west end of Bolton Village to the Bolton/Waterbury Town line, weather permitting. Driveway entrances and side road entrances will also be paved in this week. Guardrail operations will continue working between the Waterbury/Bolton Town Line and Jenny Davis Road all week. Traffic – All work will require alternating one-way travel around the construction area. Traffic control personnel will be present to assist in maintaining traffic flow. Motorists should anticipate traffic delays. Please allow for extra time in your travel plans. Northbound Off Ramp Signal Project AOT Project No. NHG SGNL(43) Project Location: The Northbound Off Ramp Signal Project is located at Exit 10 at the intersection of I-89 and VT100. Week of October 13, 2014 Due to the expected increase in traffic volume over the Columbus Day holiday weekend, no work will be performed Monday, October 13th. Work on the project will resume Tuesday, October 14th. Crews will work on the signal off the shoulder of Route 100 NB. Two-way traffic will be maintained throughout the week. Traffic – Minor traffic delays are expected this week. Stowe Street Sidewalk AOT Project No. STP EH10 (20) Project Location: Stowe Street project limits extend from the Thatcher Brook School to Lincoln Street. Week of October 13, 2014 Crews will be working on the project on Columbus Day, Monday, October 13, 2014. Crews will continue installing new sidewalks and curbing between East Street and the Thatcher Brook School. Paving and placing of topsoil will also occur in this area throughout the week. Travel will be reduced to alternating one-way traffic within the construction zone. Traffic: Traffic delays can be expected throughout the week. Waitsfield-Moretown-Duxbury (VT 100 Preventive Maintenance Paving) AOT Project No. STP SURF(39) Project Location: The Waitsfield – Moretown – Duxbury VT 100 Preventive Maintenance Paving project limits begin 2.4 miles north of Warren/Waitsfield town line (Fiddlers Green) and extend to the intersection of US 2 in Moretown for a distance of 12 miles. Saturday, October 11, 2014 – Crews will not be working on the project Saturday. Week of October 13, 2014 Due to the expected increase in traffic volume over the Columbus Day holiday weekend, no work will be performed Monday, October 13th. Work on the project will resume Tuesday, October 14th. Paving - Paving crews will be paving driveways throughout the project. They will also be placing shoulder gravel from just north of Waitsfield Village to the intersection of Route 100B. These operations will require alternating one-way traffic within the construction zone. Traffic control personnel will be present to maintain traffic flow. Traffic: Traffic delays can be expected throughout the week. I-89 Bridges Project AOT Project No. IM 089-2(43) Project Location: The I-89 Bridges Project is located at Exit 10 on I-89 in Waterbury. Week of October 13, 2014 Due to the expected increase in traffic volume over the Columbus Day holiday weekend, no work will be performed Monday, October 13th. Work on the project will resume Tuesday, October 14th. I-89 Crossover Work – Crews will continue construction of the crossovers on I-89 in preparation for the bridge construction in 2015. Daily closures of the passing lanes through the Exit 10 area of I-89 will be required during daytime hours. Motorists using Exit 10 on ramps are advised to use extreme caution and yield upon merging into traffic. With daily passing lane closures through the Exit 10 NB and SB area, thru traffic will be restricted to use the travel lanes only. Speed limits have been reduced to 50 mph through the construction zones on I-89 NB and SB. Traffic: Traffic delays can be expected throughout the week. Please focus on safety when driving through the construction work zone. As of October 1st, it is against the law to use a hand held cell phone while driving.
