Consultation begins on Traffords Street Lighting - TopicsExpress

Consultation begins on Traffords Street Lighting strategy Trafford Council is urging local residents, businesses, the emergency services and other interested parties to have their say as part of the consultation on its draft Street Lighting Strategy which started on 17 October 2014. The consultation runs until Thursday, 6 November 2014 and after this, all the views and comments made will be carefully considered and wherever possible incorporated within the amended Strategy. This document sets out the intended way the Boroughs street lighting will be provided and maintained over the next 10 years. The proposals follow a comprehensive review of current practices and future needs. In producing the draft Strategy, the need to protect the safety of road users, pedestrians and local communities has been balanced with the need to reduce general street lighting costs and the amount of energy used. The objectives of the draft Strategy are to: At least maintain and where possible, improve the quality and effectiveness of street lighting across Trafford. At least maintain and where possible increase the positive contribution that street lighting makes to the safety of road users, pedestrians and the community. Provide street lighting appropriate to the specific natural and built environment in Trafford. Minimise the adverse impact of street lighting on the natural and built environment. Improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions associated with street lighting. Reduce the maintenance and operational costs associated with street lighting. Ensure due consideration is given to possible impacts on public health. Executive Councillor for Environment and Operations, John Reilly, said: The finalised strategy will provide Trafford with the mechanism to deliver modern, well-designed and well-maintained street lighting which meets local needs. It will also deliver the best possible value for money, reduced energy usage and carbon emissions, a safe environment for road users, pedestrians and local communities while at the same time supporting economic growth. I would encourage as many people as possible to take the time to find out more and let us have their comments as it is these which will help us shape the final strategy.
