Then they said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt? Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, ‘Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness.” (Exodus 14:11-12 NKJV) To understand Exodus 14:11-12, This is the first instance of grumbling and complaining by the Israelites. Grumbling would become a major problem for the people on this journey. Their lack of faith in God is startling. Yet how often do we find ourselves doing the same thing--complaining over inconveniences or discomforts? The Israelites were about to learn some tough lessons. Had they trusted God, they would have been spared much grief. This note to help understand Exodus 14:11-12 is from the Life Application Study Bible (King James Version). More to think about: We often complain so much without looking at the big picture. There are so many countless things to be grateful for and we often focus on that one thing whether it be a discomfort, whether its something we want and dont have, and when we dont have what we want, we grumble and complain, and we tend to focus on that one thing and mute everything else from our minds. We need to consider that there is always someone going through worse than we are, and we need to be thankful and appreciate what we have instead of complaining.
