Consumer protection bill coming soon Minister for Trade and Industry Amelia Kyambadde Government is to present a consumer protection bill to boost the fight against substandard in the market produced both locally and internationally. The partnership between the Private sector foundation (PSF) and Goverment comes at a time when a bill that aims at protecting consumers from purchasing sub-standard products is to be presented to parliament soon. This was revealed by the Minister for Trade Amelia Kyambadde at the 8th International Expo who said Uganda is said to be a harbor of fake and sub-standard goods within the region, which has not only resulted in cheating the consumers but also endangering the health of the population. And it is from this that the Private Sector Foundation Uganda is leading the fight against substandard goods in Ugandan market through public expos. Ugandan manufacturers have shown interest in fighting products that don’t meet Uganda’s standards by promising to educate the public to be able to differentiate between fake from genuine ones. Skilled labor, technology and infrastructure are some of the main key areas that the business community has to focus on to deliver quality goods and services. For now, to you the consumer, certain specifications like expiry date, branding components such as place of manufacture and feedback contacts and if its UNBS certified are the things to look out for in a product before purchase.
