Contemporary Arabic Music: Its Current State and Outlook AFAC, in collaboration with Metro Al-Madina, is calling on musicians, composers, producers, distributors and everyone who cares about independent Arabic music today, to attend an afternoon meeting with Brahim El Mazned, Artistic Director of Timitar Festival of World Music, Morocco, and juror for many international festivals including “Babel Med” in Marseille, France. The meeting will also host Ammar Dajani, founder and manager of “The Cairo Jazz Club” and a leading figure in cultivating a space for independent music in Egypt. This meeting aims to bring together contemporary cultural practitioners working in independent and alternative Arabic music in order to share different perspectives, and get a better understanding of the field and the obstacles that need to be addressed. We hope to create new vision and strategy for improving independent music distribution. We also hope to encourage collaboration and to benefit from the new music festivals that are emerging in the Arab region and across the globe. Time: Nov 7th 2013 – from 4:00pm to 7:00pm Place: Metro Madina – Sarolla bldg. – Hamra, Beirut
