Context: Im a five-year transplant to the region who grew up and lived for many years outside the United States. Alabama is the only US state Ive lived in, although I visit the US New England states multiple times a year to visit family. For those of you who know the Birmingham policing situation well, how many of the local enforcement issues are ones similar to whats described in this NYT piece as the old Camden, NJ issues? Im asking as I was somewhat jolted recently by the trouble a local Bham resident friend had with regards to getting action after repeated problems with a neighbors dangerous dog. The point being that she was having trouble getting police action to ensure that her immediate neighborhood remained safe.
