Day 3 of when my world changed... 6am rounds from the myriad of doctors looking over mom. I pulled them aside because I had questions. The answers were 6 months at best, quality of life was our only option. I immediately began discussing the possibility of moving her to Baltimore and getting her in the care of Johns Hopkins. That option was squashed. They did another comparative X-ray and by noon, I was told 6 months became 6 days. Devastated, I gathered the strength to look at the X-rays. That damned cancer was moving through her too fast. So mom and I started having real conversations. You would have to know us and how we talked. No hold barred. No punches pulled. Brutal honesty is how we rolled... We started getting things in order. She told me she was ready. God had prepared her for this. She told me she was so so proud of me and that I would be alright. She needed me to be strong for her mother. She needed me to be strong for my kids, her grand children. She then told me to lean over. She hugged me, I kissed her... She now look, I want u to look under that plastic flower pot on the patio. There is a key to a safe deposit box... In that box..... Boy Im just bullshitting... Lol. We laughed and laughed. She then said, Remember how we played connect 4 when you were little. You loved that game. I said yes maam. So I downloaded a Connect 4 game on my iPad and we played a few rounds till she went back to sleep. She beat my butt as she did when I was little by the way... That night my cousins Jason Davis, Josh Davis, my uncle Presley Hall Jr. And I got a bottle of Crown as I told them the prognosis. We comforted each other and killed that crown!!!
