Continuing taxpayers’ education By GERRY T. PAGHARION Roxas City government consultant and interim general manager for economic enterprises Carmen Andrade said taxpayers’ education would be a continuing program of the License, Permit and Division Office to educate taxpayers of their obligations towards the City. Oftentimes, the city taxpayers are not aware of their liabilities simply because they are not properly apprised on the matter, Andrade said in an interview. “They are often caught flat-footed.” Andrade said she would be holding a meeting/dialogue with bookkeepers and accountants to brief them on matters governing taxes so that they, in turn, can guide their clients in settling their tax liabilities with the city government. Andrade’s efforts have paid off when the City was chosen to be the candidate for the “Regulatory Simplification Project” in Region Vl of the Department of the Interior and Local Government with the “overall end result of enhancing it competitiveness as an investment destination and further improving the delivery of public services as a result of increased revenues due to savings in administration costs and productive employees. “
