Continuing the conversation on barriers& challenges communities face in their peruse for peace and justice in the Holy Land; for today we wish to share with you on the issue of Fear, Hatred & Racism One of the greatest barriers to peace is fear; fear prevents mutual trust and respect between the different groups to be established. The behavior of communities living in the Holy Land is frequently driven by fear. For example, the Jewish community lives a fear of eradication and the Palestinian community lives a fear of ethnic cleansing or marginalization. The violence and trauma of current conflicts and historic experiences of past conflicts have resulted in people developing fear of “the other,” fear that past events will be repeated, fear that current patterns of behavior will continue, and fear that a step forward will expose them to great danger. All this ultimately perpetuates victimization, blame, hatred, and even racism. We hold that a critical element to moving forward is engagement in a deep healing process. Our aim is to help communities understand themselves and the other and dissolve their respective fears, healing past traumas and grievances, and opening the way for positive growth and action through mutual trust and respect. holylandtrust.org/index.php/vision-1/barriers-core-challenges Please share with us your thoughts & comments
