Continuing with Rexie’s tips for a joyful adventure: as you google the hotels of Europe, know they want to put their best foot forward with photos of the lobby, the rooms etc. Only one of the six hotels we visited truly mislead us as regards quality and size of room…its only saving grace was primo location across from the train station, a one minute walk. So you check in and open the door to your hotel bedroom, all looks nice with queen bed, modern bathroom fixtures, TV. However, know the following: box springs and mattress are an American standard for sleeping equipment. Hotels in Europe have a mattress… but forget the box spring…hence most beds there are a tad lacking in cush. But, the biggest slight to the American sleeping experience comes when you alight on this close-to-the-floor-bed and your head sinks into what looks like a large pillow…and your head continues to sink till your head is level with the mattress…these pillows have no cush, no anything…folding the pillow in half helps but be emotionally prepared to deal with an uncooperative pillow.
