Cook Islands investigate levy arrangement From TVNZ News Mon 17 Jun 2013 TopicsCook IslandsShare this articleEmailFacebookTwitter The Cook Islands parliament has approved a review of certain importers which were allowed to split invoices for goods on which duty is calculated and payable. The Public Accounts Committee is specifically looking at how the Cook Islands Trading Company was given permission to separate contents and packaging on imported products supplied by Coca Cola from the mid-1980s until September 2009. This meant it was able to pay less than the 40% levy other local importers were paying. The Finance Minister Mark Brown says the committee will have full independence in order to provide parliament their findings.
