Corey Oates to come off interchange bench for Broncos against Roosters: TEENAGE sensation Corey Oates has been rushed into the Brisbane Broncos side for tomorrow night’s blockbuster against the Sydney Roosters. With Ben Hannant succumbing to a hamstring injury, Martin Kennedy moves to the starting side and Oates, 19, comes onto the bench for the Suncorp Stadium showdown. It will be the first game of the season for Oates who has battled a string of niggling injuries. Standing at 192cm and weighing 106kg, Oates was a rookie standout in the NRL last year when playing on the wing. However, tomorrow night he is set to be used in the forwards for the first time in his career against the reigning premiers. “Ben had a slight hamstring strain on Tuesday, which was unfortunate for him,” coach Anthony Griffin said. “Jarrod Wallace and David Hala will be on the bench with Corey Oates. “Corey was pretty close to playing last week but we gave him another week and he’s been doing full training now for a month. “He is ready for a game so we will bring him off the bench. “He gives us a bit of versatility there, he can play in the backs or forwards so he covers a lot of spots there for us. “He will get some time, I just don’t know where at the moment. “It’s footy, you would rather have McGuire and Hannant there but they won’t be. “It’s a good challenge for Kennedy to start and the other two guys coming off the bench.”
