Cory Booker Stole $100 Million from Education, Spent on Campaign David Shankbone Most people believe Cory Booker is a real-life Superman. But a new ad released by the American Commitment Fund claims the Newark, New Jersey mayor used a $100 million education donation for political purposes. Mark Zuckerbeg, CEO of Facebook, donated the funds to the city of Newark to enhance the city’s public education. The ad, however, shows Mayor Booker spent the funds on political consultants, polling, and other political practices. Phil Kerpen, founder of the American Commitment Fund, stated, “I would love to know why the $100 million wasn’t spent in the classrooms when 38 percent of Newark students fail to graduate from high school.” Newark is notorious for its low literacy rate and failing school systems. But like many New Jersey cities, the amount spent on educating each child is relatively high—$23,000 per student per year. “Cory Booker was given all the resources a mayor could possibly dream of for education, with millions in private funding on top of already staggering per pupil spending,” said Kerpen. Booker is the front-runner for the late Sen. Lautenberg’s vacate senate seat and has received endorsements from Oprah Winfrey and Pres. Barack Obama. Despite his likability, he was a no-show earlier this week at the first televised debate
