[Cosmos] Executive Producer [Seth] MacFarlane said he sees a decline in appreciation for science in America, describing the state of the space program as incredibly depressing, and criticizing the challenge to evolution in schools. All these things piling up that betray the fact that weve lost our way in terms of our scientific literacy and its incredibly damaging to the evolution of any society, MacFarlane said. I thought we solved this whole evolution thing years and years ago but I guess not, I guess it still needs to be explained. There are a number of areas where scientific illiteracy rears its head. Uhm, Seth, a word if I might... The schools have been eliminating any opposition to humanist evolutionary thought by judicial fiat for the last fifty years. The latest triumph was in Tennessee. What you should be lamenting is the FACT that as religion is removed from public education, interest in science has declined. You are not seeing a rise in religion versus a decline in science. You are seeing a rise in the separation of church from the state and a decline in science. Let me make it simple for you; More Atheism = Less Science. Why? Because blind faith, no matter the religion, is - by definition - blind and Atheism is a religion of blind faith. After all, science tells us our existence is an accident; unpredictable and unplanned,,. meaningless. If everything that is, simply is, then why bother asking why? I mean, if it doesnt put money in my pocket, food on my table, or pleasurable stimuli for my skin, why bother? After all, what else is there? You see, that higher state you yearn for in the human condition requires there to be a higher state to which we may achieve. Chew on that for a while.
