Costumes: Leyli Source: A Brides Story (Otoyomegatari) Video Filmed by: ManyLemons Judges Award I dont like doing straight walk-ons in costume. I much prefer trying to bring some kind of performance element to it instead of just posing. Thats what I tried to do for my masquerade performance for Leyli. Shes a pretty wild, boisterous character, so I tried to bring that out on stage! In the culture that Leyli is from, women generally have their heads covered, however, if a man touches a womans bare head, it is considered a shameful thing, and the man must marry the woman. Although this isnt something the audience would get, I wanted to try and incorporate something to do with a man, a woman and the headscarf as part of the performance. Quite what happens is down to interpretation. One of the things I really like (especially in photos) is how the fabric moves about with all my flailing. I think it looks really nice and smooth and makes me feel very happy about the fabric choices I made while doing this cosplay! There was the slight incident where I lost all my spare clips for my headscarf, so I fumbled with it trying to put it back on, but I think it wasnt too much of a distraction! Also, sorry for my head being cut off when I walk up to the judges. Serves me right for using the full length of the stage. :P
