Could a changing weather pattern in February mean less extreme - TopicsExpress

Could a changing weather pattern in February mean less extreme cold and more snow? FOR WEATHER GEEKS ONLY: Ok.... this is what you snow lovers have been waiting for. Its called a Split Flow pattern where we have a northern and southern branch of the jet stream. When and where the two phase is where the big snows occur! Just a little background on the types of snowstorms we see in Ohio. Alberta Clippers (weve had one after another this month) bring cold and snow but relatively little moisture to work with. Typically youll get 1-3 inches of snow and if its cold enough 2-4 inches as will be the case tonight. The southern storms from Oklahoma and Texas can pull copious amounts of moisture up from the Gulf of Mexico. These type of storms can produce the 6-12 storms as was the case back in Indiana earlier this month. For us to get in on these heavy snows the low needs to track across Central Kentucky. That big storm earlier this month brought the low right up I-71 so a foot or more of snow fell from Indianapolis to Fort Wayne. With all of that in mind I wanted to share the GFS model for February 4th and 5th. Heres that southern branch of the jet stream and an impressive storm. While not the ideal track for us at the moment, weve got something to watch. More importantly.....the pattern change is coming. One of these Southern storms is going to hit us in February!
