Could a strengthening US dollar be a bad thing? Some interviewees - TopicsExpress

Could a strengthening US dollar be a bad thing? Some interviewees seem to think so in this article as they discuss effects of the falling value of the Euro, Japanese Yen, and Chinese Renminbi when compared to the dollar as a result of expanding stimulus abroad. They argue that American policy makers are allowing Europe, Japan and even China to seek a little more prosperity — at the expense of Americans in an effort to have currencies less artificially set in value and to promote improved economic stability world wide. It is interesting to think that the fact that the USAs economic growth has out paced the rest of the world could actually be bad for USA companies who now find it harder to sell their goods internationally due to the dollars higher price tag. Nevertheless, it doesnt seem right to me to take from our country to give to another. I understand the utilitarian view point and that in the long run our economy will benefit but perhaps the USA should provide advice when asked and focus on our own still recovering economy? I dont know it was an intriguing article. nytimes/2014/10/03/business/international/as-fed-retreats-from-stimulus-central-banks-overseas-expand-theirs.html?_r=0
