Loughborough will always be a very special place to me, thanks to the great friends and memories I made there. Memories like riding my beautiful old bike across Europe when I couldnt afford a plane ticket, programming robots to shoot bbs, endless hours of Zombies accompanied by Maryland chicken and good friends, late night sparring sessions in a communal kitchen, driveway, industrial estate and early morning sparring sessions in the many gyms, parks and living rooms we used. Powerbase (oh how spoiled we were to have that place!), too many overnight stays in Haselgrave to count with too much redbull to be healthy. £70 library fines, MMA initiations and a million more awesome memories. Some students, who I thought of as rich kids, knocked Loughborough as a place. The same would tell me youll see when youre middle class too, you get used to better and this place feels shit. Now I can afford to eat more than peanut butter sandwiches and am I guess what they call middle class I can still feel the warmth from the place. Its no city of dreaming spires but I still look at those beat-up terraced (student) houses and see freedom and possibility. The chance to get out and away from whatever shit was behind you, and find your own worth in the world. I will always be grateful for that chance.
