Council-person Jeanne Aulbach sent this update on city activities out via email today: City Council Meeting – 8-6-2013 – 7:00PM – City Hall The agenda and packet will be posted to the city web site tomorrow (Monday). You can check it here peachtreecorners.sophicity/AgendaAndMinutes.aspx. Per Julian Jackson, the following items will be on the agenda: Presentations: • Diana Wheeler –Community development update • Mary Kay Murphy - Overview of the School Systems Strategic Plan. She is making a brief presentation to each of the Cities in her District. New Business: • Resolution Establishing Tree Bank – This arose from the ZBA approval of a zoning variance for the QuikTrip on Peachtree Corners Circle. In order to compensate the city for the reduction in trees and green space, the applicant offered to fund the planting of trees elsewhere. This is a concept called “tree banking”. You can read an article on the concept here phytosphere/treeord/treebank.htm. The applicant will provide the city with an amount of money representing the difference in cost between what is required and what they will actually plant. The city can use those funds for planting in an area of the city that needs more greenery. The city council will be required to vote to approve establishing a tree bank. • Waste Pro Contract – We will be approving the final contract with Waste Pro. You will see significant savings on your trash service • SPLOST IGA - Intergovernmental agreement with the county on the upcoming SPLOST vote. You may have noticed a few changes. First, the billing is broken out in part as to the purpose of the tax. Peachtree Corners property owners will see that there is no tax listed for Development/Code Enforcement. These are the services the city provides so it is not included as part of the county assessment. Second, there is no line for city property tax because our millage rate is now zero. Third, there is no line for trash service. The city will assume responsibility for this service on January 1, 2014. You will no longer be billed through your tax bill, but will be billed directly.
