Councilman Dee Andrews to Host a Neighborhood Tree Planting Councilman Dee Andrews, along with the Office of Sustainable, and Mental Health America will host a 6th Neighborhood Tree Planting, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, on Friday, June 21st, at 1871 Locust Avenue, Long Beach, CA As part of the Councilman Andrews Neighborhood Tree Planting Program, neighbors of the Midtown area of Long Beach are gearing up to meet this Friday, June 21st to plant about thirty trees over three street blocks. The trees will be planted from the 1800 thru 2000 block of Locust Avenue. Volunteers are welcome. Street tree coordinators will gather at 1871 Locust Avenue for a demonstration on how to properly plant a tree. Participants will work in teams of 2-3 people and are advised to wear boots and gloves, no open-toe shoes or bare hands. Coordinators are also encouraging planters to bring tools like shovels, pruning shears, sharp knives, brooms and rakes. “Long Beach is becoming a more environmentally sustainable place to live, work, and visit,” said Councilman Dee Andrews. “I encourage all of Long Beach to make an easy investment in our City by learning how to plant, preserve, and protect their neighborhood trees.” To volunteer or to get more information about getting a free tree, call (562) 570-6816.
