Councilman Thomas Honors Mt. Vernon Neighborhood Health Center Amid federal government shutdown due the health care debate and, locally, the uncertain future of Mt. Vernon Hospital, Councilman Thomas takes a moment to recognize importance of regional health care provider. MT. VERNON, NY (October 9, 2013) –The Mt. Vernon City Council periodically recognizes outstanding community leaders and organizations for their contributions to the betterment of Mt. Vernon. Tonight, Councilman Richard Thomas, chairman of the Mt. Vernon City Council’s Finance & Planning committee, will honor the Mt. Vernon Neighborhood Health Center for their dedication to delivering high quality health care to vulnerable populations in Mt. Vernon, Yonkers, Greenburgh and throughout Westchester County. “The Mt. Vernon Neighborhood Health Center, like the Rock of Gibraltar, continues to uplift people of all socioeconomic levels despite the crushing weight of budget cuts within the healthcare industry,” said Councilman Thomas. “For decades they have served as a staunch guardian aiding populations afflicted with asthma, obesity, diabetes, dental work, and pre-natal care. Given today’s turbulent times, Mt. Vernon needs them more than ever especially since the future of Mt. Vernon Hospital remains uncertain.” Representing the Health Center and receiving the award will be Carol Morris, executive director, and Dave Ford, board member and former Commissioner of the Mt.
