Country music has lost another great musician today with the passing of pianist and keyboard player Gary W Smith. Such sad news when I found out. Gary was 16 when I first met him and he played in a group with me in California for a short time then along with two of his cousins David and Larry Peeples. I also traveled with Garys older brother, steel guitarist Jack Smith for a year in a group called The Tennesseans and I was honored to have both Jack and Gary play on my last album. Jack passed away recently also. I loved both Jack and Gary like brothers. We go back MANY years. In this video of Ricky Skaggs you can see and hear just how great a piano player Gary was. In addition to playing with Ricky Skaggs, He played with several other artists including Barbara Mandrell, Dolly Parton, and several others and was currently playing with John Anderson. Please pray for his family and MANY friends.
