County Cricket Round-Up - 5th August 2013 Rain meant that five of the six remaining matches in round 14 of the LV= County Championship ended in draws. Only at Grace Road was there a result, with Lancashire completing the thrashing of the home side to stay top of Division Two. Leicestershire resisted for just a further 18.1 overs in their second innings as they were dismissed for 174 to lose by an innings and 52 runs. Kyle Hogg ended with five for 77 from 22 overs as Niall O’Brien top-scored with 50. Hampshire comfortably drew against Glamorgan at Southampton. They faced 39.2 overs today in their second innings, progressing from 115 for two to 237 for four. Night-watchman Chris Wood did the bulk of the run-scoring and made 69. He shared a stand of 95 with Neil McKenzie (35 not out) for the fourth-wicket. Northamptonshire had to settle for a draw against Gloucestershire as Chris Dent hit an undefeated century. Dent took his overnight stand with opening partner Michael Klinger to 190 before his captain was caught off Cameron White for 78. He was then joined by Gareth Roderick, who ended on 12 not out, with Dent on 128 and Gloucestershire on 227 for one. Rain denied Tom Fell a maiden first-class century on the final day of Worcestershire’s rain-affected match against Kent. Fell ended on 94, having taken his eighth-wicket partnership with Jack Shantry (54) to 126. Worcestershire finished on 284 for eight in reply to Kent’s 324. Warwickshire were left stranded on three for none after being set 174 from 36 overs to beat Division One leaders Yorkshire. Yorkshire had managed to prolong their second innings to 180, but the Bears would have fancied their chances of knocking off the runs. Chris Woakes ended with figures of five for 42 in the Yorkshire second innings, with Boyd Rankin taking the final two wickets to fall to record figures of four for 29. Rain and Nick Compton saved Somerset from defeat at the hands of Nottinghamshire at Taunton. They were asked to follow-on by the visitors as Samit Patel dismissed Steve Kirby with the second ball of the day to leave them trailing by 190 runs. Marcus Trescothick and Compton then got their side off to a good start second time around with a partnership of 79. Trescothick (39) was caught behind off Harry Gurney, but Compton saw it through and finished on 70 not out. County Cricket News In Brief: Northamptonshire batsman David Sales has told BBC Northampton that he may leave Wantage Road at the end of the season. 35 year-old Sales, who hit 255 not out in the current match against Gloucestershire, said, “What will be, will be. I’ve had 19 good years and it may be time for the next chapter in my career. We’ll have to wait and see if anything gets offered.” Jeetan Patel has verbally agreed to be Warwickshire’s overseas player again next season according to the Birmingham Mail. Club coach Dougie Brown said, “We will be looking to roll Jeets on again next year. We have pretty much agreed it.”
