Couple held for murder of retired HAL employee HYDERABAD: KPHB police on Tuesday arrested S Venkat Reddy, 23, a pickup boy with HDFC Banks personal loans department at Ranigunj, and his wife Swaroopa for the murder of 67-year-old P Subramanyam, a retired HAL employee. Venkat and Swaroopa are alleged to have throttled Subramanyam to death at his flat at Manihar Enclave apartment in Nizampet on February 19. The couple had then escaped with his debit cards and made purchases of gold and other valuables worth about Rs 1 lakh. Due to differences with his family members, Subramanyam used to stay alone in the flat and the couple knew him for about a year as the elderly man used to loan them money. On February 19, the couple went to his house for lunch. When they asked for some money, Subramanyam asked the couple to come at night. Venkat then hatched a plan to eliminate Subramanyam and escape with valuables from his house. Later at night, the couple met Subramanyam, who was in an inebriated condition, at his house. When Subramanyam was about to fall asleep, Swaroopa held his legs and Venkat throttled him to death, KPHB inspector V Srikanth Goud said. The couple then escaped with a cell phone, two cheques, an ATM card, a wrist watch, two gold rings and Rs 800 cash from the house. The couple had noted down the ATM PIN from the retired mans diary. Venkat then withdrew Rs 40,000 from the victims account and purchased gold jewellery worth Rs 51,650 by swiping the ATM card at Kalyan Jewellers in Kukatpally. Venkat also purchased a used bike by paying Murad Motors in Vikarabad Rs 14,500. On analyzing the phone calls of the victim, KPHB police discovered that he was in contact with Venkat and Swaroopa on the day of his death. The special team of KPHB sleuths nabbed Venkat at Nizampet X Roads on Monday evening and based on his confession arrested Swaroopa from Vikarabad. The two were produced in court and remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday.
