Couple to serve five area churches By John D. Taylor On Sunday, members of five area Lutheran churches -- in Crosby, Ambrose, Alamo, Fortuna and Wildrose – got to meet their two new pastors, Revs. Zachariah and Emily Shipman. They even witnessed Zachariah’s ordination as a Lutheran minister. Emily was ordained in her home church, Hope Lutheran, in Walker, Minn., in mid-June. Both Shipmans were installed Sunday at Concordia Lutheran Church, amid applause Bishop Mark Narum assured the congregants was not only “appropriate,” but probably could not have been held back. The couple is filling a long-standing hole in Concordia’s pulpit and also helping some rural churches that might not have been able to call a new pastor on their own. “We’re exceedingly excited about having them here,” said Concordia’s Ed Retzer, president of the church’s call committee and the parish council. “And we were especially glad to get a couple -- due to the logistics of serving all the churches.” Retzer said the process of finding new ministers took about 18 months, and involved many meetings and numerous phone calls.
