Court Orders NASS Clerk To Make Public Constituency Allocation To Edo Lawmakers By: Patrick Ochoga on July 18, 2013 - 1:26am Tweet A Federal High Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State, presided over by Justice A. M Liman, has ordered the Clerk of the National Assembly , Abuja to furnish Chief Patrick Osagie Eholor with salaries , emoluments and Constituency allowances of Senator Ehigie Uzamere and Hon Nosakhare Osahon representing Edo South and Ovia federal Constituency respectively. In suit No: FHC/B/CS/94/13, filed by the plaintiff through his counsel, Barrister Ogbegie said his client’s decision to explore the instrumentality of the law is to ensure that public officers entrusted with the responsibility of representing their people are compelled to live up to the mandate of their people. The plaintiff, Patrick Eholor, Founder of One Love Foundation International, a non-governmental organisation, had been critical of Political office holders in Edo State. According to Barrister Ogbegie, “our client approached us to do a letter on his behalf to the National Assembly, Abuja, regarding the allowances, emoluments, constituency allocations of Senator Ehigie Uzamere, and Hon Nosakhare Osahon requesting for these information. We also wrote that our client was ready to pay any fee necessary and that such information be directed to our offices in Benin. He explained that, “the Freedom of Information Act is to deepen democracy so that information can be available to the people all the time and for proper accountability to the people they want to serve, adding that, “the issue of salaries of public officers has been clouded in mystry.”
