Court affirms Ambali as UNILORIN VC A Federal High Court, sitting in Ilorin, has affirmed the appointment of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali. The court has also dismissed the suit filed by one of the contestants for UNILORIN vice-chancellorship position, Professor Rasheed Ijaodola, challenging the appointment of Professor Ambali as the vice chancellor of UNILORIN in 2012. In his originating summons, Professor Ijaodola sought for an order of injunction restraining President Goodluck Jonathan, the Minister of Education and the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC) from recognising or treating Professor Ambali as vice chancellor. Other reliefs sought by the plaintiff was, “an order restraining the then Vice Chancellor, Professor Is-haq Oloyede from recognising Professor Ambali as the new vice chancellor; a declaration that the short-listing, selection and appointment of Professor Ambali as the new vice chancellor of the university are irregular, improper, unlawful, null and void; a declaration that the interview conducted by aboard chaired by Alhaji Saka Sa’adu is irregular, improper, wrongful, unlawful, null and void, among other reliefs”. Delivering his judgment, Justice Olayinka Faaj, dismissed the plaintiff’s claims as lacking in merit and “is accordingly hereby dismissed.”
