Me Onua Obaa Jeannette Taylor Pls thank Redd for me! ******* RT Travel Options Reddy Cheap Fares Dear Valued Traveler, We would like to take this opportunity to comment on the ongoing Ebola outbreak in West & Central Africa. Confirmed cases of Ebola have been recorded in four countries in West Africa, namely Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria, plus the Democratic Republic of Congo in Central Africa. A single case was reported in Senegal of a student from Guinea who crossed into the country, despite the fact that Senegal had closed its border with Guinea. The student was quarantined and has fully recovered. Senegal has since tightened its border controls and no other cases have occurred in Senegal. There are no cases of the virus in South Africa and other Southern African countries, no cases in Ethiopia and other East African countries, no cases in Morocco and other North African countries, neither have there been any cases in the West African countries of Ghana, Togo, Benin, Mali and Burkina Faso, to list a few; all countries that are popular destinations for tourists and business travelers. * It is important to note that Ebola is not highly contagious like the flu; to the contrary, the virus is spread through direct contact with the blood or body fluids of a symptomatic individual. Every outbreak of Ebola over the past 40 years has been contained, and the U.S is confident that this one can-and will be-as well. Although the spread to other countries is possible, the CDC is working with the governments of affected countries to control the outbreak. Ebola is a very low risk for travelers - it is spread through direct contact with the blood or other body fluids of an infected person, so travelers can protect themselves by avoiding sick people and hospitals where patients with Ebola are being treated. Source: cdc.gov/ vhf/ebola/outbreaks/guinea/qa. html * WHO does not recommend any ban on international travel or trade, in accordance with advice from the WHO Ebola Emergency Committee. Travel restrictions and active screening of passengers on arrival at sea ports, airports or ground crossings in non-affected countries that do not share borders with affected countries are not currently recommended by WHO. Worldwide, countries should provide their citizens traveling to Ebola-affected countries with accurate and relevant information on the Ebola outbreak and measures to reduce the risk of exposure. Source: who.int/ mediacentre/news/statements/ 2014/ebola-travel-trasport/en/ The governments of the unaffected West and Central African countries including Ghana have increased preventive measures including nationwide education and screening at the borders and airports. So strict and extensive are the enforcement of the preventive measures to stop the spread of the disease across borders that international health organizations have argued that the measures are unnecessarily overreaching. There are no flights between Ghana and Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, the three main affected countries, and most countries in West Africa that share borders with the affected countries have closed those borders. Ghana does not share border with any of the affected countries. For detailed country-by-country information updated regularly, please see the World Health Organization Update on who.int/csr/don/ archive/disease/ebola/en/ . We hope this helps to inform and reassure travelers that the vast majority, of the more than 50, countries on the continent including Ghana, are currently safe and enjoyable to visit for vacation and for business, while practicing good hygiene and observing the usual customary health precautions.
