Crabman is over and I survived. The water was tough - big waves - TopicsExpress

Crabman is over and I survived. The water was tough - big waves and I could not get in when it was time. I missed the window of them breaking and then got knocked off my feet. Talk about gut check time. I was sitting on the shore with the water crashing over me while everyone else was already half way to the buoy. It was either get up and try again or call it quits. I so did not want to be the last person out of the water, or be by myself out there swimming. But more importantly, I did not want to turn around and head back up the beach. So I got up, and made it in that time. As I was making my way out, I heard one of the support people on the kayaks talking to another swimmer telling them that if they just kept going they could finish. And so i did. It was not an easy swim. I passed several people who needed to rest on one of the kayaks along the way. I was asked but I was determined to finish on my own. I discovered later that some people actually got out of the water and went on the rescue boat. (Janice told me later that she saw people doing that during the earlier waves - good friend to not mention that to me!!) Never once put my head in the water (though I did try Coach Tom!) but I made it and that is all that matters. Bike was great, nice and flat, no problems clipping in or out. I was not happy with my run time from OMG so I was determined to do better this go around to try and make up for what I knew was going to be a slower swim. I started out slow to get my legs underneath me from the bike but then was able to increase my pace. My run was about 1:30 faster than the last time so I am very pleased with that. If i can get the swim down, I may actually be able to improve my overall time! I finished in 1:36 again which is the exact same time as last time. I am very pleased with that time because I was sure it was going to be much worse. Shoutout to Janice Oldmeadow who rocked it today finishing 9th in her age group!! She did awesome and has been such a great friend and training buddy. I will be lost without her at my next race as she will be doing her half ironman that day. I told her I am going to make a cardboard cutout of her and bring it along with me for moral support!! Big thanks to Gary Lima for getting up at 4:00am to drive us down there this morning and cheering us on. Seeing him when I came out of the water was just what I needed.
