Cracking day here in Glencoe today with James Byrne, Kevin Finlon & Anthony Bourner climbing Stub Coire Nan Lochain, 1115 meters. Hit the snow line around 700 meters where we put on our crampons & ascended higher to practice ice axe arrest, which was rather fun. We then scrambled (Grade 2) the north east ridge which, certainly for me, had some pretty hairy moments. I was not looking forward the the descent. We summited around 130 then, still in our crampons, scrambled down a rocky face. I worried about twisting an ankle or worse. We then hit Broad Gully (Grade 1) where I thought our instructor was joking when he said we were going down here! WTF. Off he went backwards...Oh shit.. The others followed & I knew I had to go. It was fantastic, never thought I would, or could, do that, wanted to take some photos but I was way too scared to get my phone out of my pocket! Things eventually flattened back out & we all set off safely making it back to the van just before twilight.
