Cramping during sporting activities? Water may NOT be your solution! A vast majority of cramps are fluid AND sodium related. Often cramps occur with extreme loss of either substance. Plain water has no sodium, so is incapable of sustaining blood volume. If an athlete is predisposed to cramping, consider replacing water with Gatorade. If training outdoors (especially in the heat) consider Gatorade Endurance (with a touch more sodium concentrate).
