Creating this topic I’d like to comprehend certain pattern ,which is well-established and very popular. It probably comes from the fact that Rommel as participant of battles against Allies and Brits in North Africa will be the most famous figure in general. As I used to highlight it it isn’t fair in relation to others who conducted much bigger enterprises .Where this comes from?? In my opinion over-estimation for importance of campaigns at the western theatre and in the Africa, therefore you always break out whenever I try to under-estimate this front. As I prove the amount of forces in comparison makes such an impression, but now lets focus on Rommel, Rommel is probably only commander who was really appreciated by Western Allies as he was close to end up British domination in Africa with a little amount of means. Rommel has become legend among the Allies troops ,which in consequence caused lack of faith in skills and abilities their own commanders and poor willingness to conduct the battle with passion and adequate engagement , whenever they knew that Rommel is leading opposing units. It caused massive disruption, especially when Rommel until July 1941 was unbeaten. My also desire is to build up in you the encouragement for any other great and talented figures in environment of capable commanders, scale of fighting made Rommel great but it weren’t magnificent victories(spectacular indeed)-as we remember Erwin Rommel always had to take a gamble and by throwing his little forces in sudden and at some point desperate thrust, so that element of surprise will be great enough to close the pocket with the foes or ambush opponents with the best scenario- to seize some abandoned procurement which will allow to continue advance and decrease possibility to establish strong defense line deftly , Rommel couldn’t waste his priceless units on assaulting defense lines as such a solution always will cause heavy losses and help to solidify resistance, as well as will add more forces on flanks which would eliminate the most favorite method for advancing with bold and daring outflanked maneuver ,Brits were getting more everything which let them to prepare the offensive and to launch the direct attack knowing very well that reserves will be in place if necessary, needless to say all crucial elements such as petrol, excessive amount of ammunition can be used and in case of crisis all can be provided to exhaust and tire enemy out. That is exactly what Monty has accomplished ,by throwing more reserves into battle made the breach, simply in the southern sector where German units based their defense line most of attempts were repelled ,Monty despite his pessimistic corps commanders began the next operation , this time towards and putting pressure on northern sector where worse equipped and with poorer morale Italian units were located, unexpectedly Italian units driven back relentlessly not letting to break through ,incessant pressure finally soften resistance and Monty adding more troops made a headway, some historians described this battle in line with similarity to First War where passive fighting took a place .,the bitter fighting inflicted very high losses but more units coming into battle brought success into Monty hands, bad thing about his next steps, was very slow a pursuit tempo as Monty very carefully undertook this task, That was literally sort of gift to Rommel who in well-organized and well-coordinated manner could withdraw for next defense line, scenario there will be pretty much the same, Monty will use as many forces as possible to tear the gap and make Rommel to take his outnumbered and outgunned troops back to Tunisia where operation torch was making some progress. I want to point out for lack of skills in Monty’s tactic, anyone who is having more reserves ,possibility to get as many fresh forces as required and an undisturbed influx of supplies would probably win and smash through enemy’s line –logistic capability played important role ,unfortunately Axis forces were not able to take any advantage in Mediterranean sector ,presence of Malta and Royal Navy under brilliant command of Andrew Cunningham didn’t let those conducive conditions to happen, Rommel could only believe that this time transport with vital petrol, ammo etc will sneak through uneven territory safely –not being intercepted, that’s is actual reason of his failure ,otherwise would be able to put into battle more means and resources and make a final push towards Egypt with no menace of running out anything what would halt the drive. Allies had no similar implications, it allowed them to gather more means and used them until the foe is depleted and unable to put stiff resistance again. Share your outlook with my !!!!!
