Creative artistic ways of expressing the peaceful protests in Hong Kong. 請大家一起分享 Share this video The 2014 Hong Kong protests, also known as the Umbrella Movement or Umbrella Revolution, began in September 2014 when activists in Hong Kong protested outside the HKSAR government headquarters and occupied several major city intersections after Chinas Standing Committee of the National Peoples Congress (NPCSC) announced its decision on proposed electoral reform. The name Umbrella Revolution was coined by Adam Cotton on Twitter on 26 September, in reference to the umbrellas used for defense against tear gas, and quickly gained widespread acceptance. The atmosphere in Admiralty where I shot this video was very relaxed and peaceful: people were taking pictures, tourists were walking around, students were working in their studying areas, children were making little paper umbrellas... The variety of banners, signs, umbrellas and sticky notes was very impressive and had an effect on setting the tone for the demonstrations. Most of the cantonese signs had english translations and were generally pleading for total democracy in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a region of China but is (supposedly) run by an independent system. I do not favor any side of these protests.
