Crime Rise: Bandits Hit Out with K35, 000 in Kitwe FOUR masked bandits have stolen K35,000 cash and a vehicle from a Chinese businessman in Kitwe, Copperbelt commissioner of police Joyce Kasosa has said. This is the fourth time that four masked bandits are striking on the Copperbelt in recent months. Similar aggravated robberies were staged twice in Ndola and once in Luanshya. Kasosa confirmed yesterday that the criminals armed with two AK47 rifles attacked four Chinese men around 23:50 hours on Tuesday night outside the perimeter wall of house number 326, Dolomido Road in Kitwe’s Ganerton. Kasosa said the suspects, who were in an unregistered grey Toyota Corolla, grabbed money belonging to Li Shunde and his Toyota Noah registration number ABC 7314 before speeding off. She said the Chinese men were not injured because they complied with the demands of the robbers. “We have instituted investigations into this matter and I am appealing to members of the public to help us with information leading to the arrest of these robbers,” Kasosa said. And police in Chililabombwe have recovered an AK47 rifle with 20 rounds of ammunition. Kasosa said the firearm belongs to the Zambia Police Service and was reported missing in January this year. She said the firearm was recovered on Tuesday in Kasumbalesa near the mobile police unit. “A police officer lost a firearm in January and it was recovered buried near the mobile police unit,” Ms Kasosa said. Meanwhile, a 46-year-old teacher at Mindolo Secondary School in Kitwe died on the spot after being knocked down by a truck on the Kitwe-Chingola Road. Kasosa said the accident happened on Tuesday around 19:00 hours on Kitwe-Chingola road opposite Mindolo Secondary School. She identified the deceased as Godfrey Sinkala of house number 05 Mindolo Secondary School teachers’ compound. “The deceased sustained multiple injuries and died on the spot,” she said.
