Crisis on the Streets: It is very hot and humid in Chicago. VERY hot. I had 24 bottles of water today; I gave away all but one. I gave water to people who live on the streets, a young man suffering from dehydration while he looked for the Metra station, and to four Red Cross workers who were soliciting donations. I gave water to a man on the train. In a city one has to buy water. There is no potable stream, no public drinking fountain. Washroom faucets are structured so that it is impossible to get a bottle under them, or they shut off after a short period of time. I have bought 35 more bottles of water for tomorrow.
